Lesson Plan It collects no student data. Ever. There are no student accounts, no student logins, and no field anywhere in the product designed to hold information about a child. The app builds lesson plans for teachers, and the plans are generic teaching documents, not records about students.
What we do handle is small: an optional mailing list (your email and role, if you choose to join), standard Google Analytics on our pages, and some files cached on your own device so the app works offline. That's the whole list.
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Whether or not a business of our size is strictly required to comply, we hold ourselves to the APPs anyway, because our users are teachers and schools and they deserve nothing less.
Our design position is simple: the best way to protect data is not to collect it. Lesson Plan It runs in your browser. Your dial settings, your topic, and any lesson you generate or paste in exist only on the page in front of you. Refresh the page and they're gone. Nothing you type or paste into the app is transmitted to us.
This deserves its own section because you work in a school.
If you join the mailing list on our website, we collect your email address and the role you select (for example "classroom teacher" or "school leader"). That's all the form asks for.
Our website and the app both use Google Analytics. This gives us aggregate usage statistics: page views, approximate location (city level), device and browser type, and how visitors move through the site.
Lesson Plan It is a progressive web app. When you first load it, a service worker saves the app's own files (the page, its icon, the offline lesson bank) into your browser's cache so everything keeps working without internet. This cache lives on your device, contains app files rather than your personal information, and disappears if you clear your browser data. We can't see it and never receive it.
When you use the copy-prompt feature, the app copies a lesson prompt to your clipboard. You then paste it into an AI tool you choose, such as your department's approved tool, and paste the response back. Two things matter here:
The only cookies on our pages are the Google Analytics cookies described above. We run no advertising, no ad cookies, and no third-party trackers beyond Analytics.
Lesson Plan It is a professional tool for teachers and is not directed at children. Students have no reason to use it and no way to create an account, because there are no accounts. If we become aware that a mailing list entry belongs to a child, we'll delete it. If you think that's happened, tell us at [hello@lessonplanit.com.au] and we'll act on it promptly.
The mailing list and Analytics both run on Google's infrastructure, which may store and process data outside Australia, including in the United States, under Google's own privacy commitments. Our website is served by our hosting provider, which may process technical data such as IP addresses transiently in the ordinary course of delivering web pages. We don't combine hosting logs with any other information, and we don't receive them.
By using the mailing list or visiting pages that load Analytics, you acknowledge this overseas processing. If that doesn't sit right with you, you can use the app itself without either: the lesson tool works offline and sends us nothing.
You can ask us at any time to tell you what personal information we hold about you (for most people the honest answer will be "an email address and a role", or "nothing"), to correct it, or to delete it. Email [hello@lessonplanit.com.au] and we'll respond within a reasonable time, usually well inside 30 days.
If you're not happy with how we've handled your information or your request, you can complain to us first, and we'd genuinely like the chance to fix it. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Our main security measure is structural: we hold almost nothing, so there is almost nothing to lose. What little we do hold (the mailing list) sits in a Google-hosted database protected with strong authentication, accessible only to us. We take no payment information of any kind.
If we change this policy, we'll update it at here with a new "last updated" date. If a change meaningfully affects mailing list subscribers, we'll tell the list directly.
